Most of our "small dog harness" customers are experienced shoppers who have searched far and wide for a harness that actually works for both them and their small dog. We understand their frustration because we have been there. Our Yorkie, Tiffany, needed a harness that avoided her trachea because she would pull and choke on her collar. Pulling on a collar, we learned, can be harmful to a small dog as it may damage the trachea and make it difficult to breathe.

After an exhaustive search of the small dog harness market we were disappointed to discover that nothing was available that would meet our needs. We must confess that we are demanding consumers (only the best will do for our Tiffy!) and the dog harness that we wanted had to meet the following criteria:
- It had to be "trachea safe", that is, it must avoid her sensitive throat area to minimize risk of injury
- It had to be relatively simple to figure out and easy to put on
- The inside surface, the part touching her body, had to be smooth and free of any sharp edges. Nylon harnesses often have a sharp edge that will matte the coat or even scratch the dog's skin.
- The harness should not bind or jam into the dog's front legs and should allow complete freedom of movement.
We decided that we would design and make the "perfect" harness for small dogs ... that harness is UDogU's "Easy On" Small Dog Harness, handmade in the U.S.A. by the skilled crafts-people at UDogU.
Our Harnesses come in these UDogU fabric designs. To see larger color samples of the fabric patterns, please click here.
Our harness is intended for small dogs because they are at risk of damaging their trachea. Larger dogs, simply because they are physically larger and stronger, are far less likely to damage their trachea. Also, using a harness will not prevent your dog from pulling. Our harnesses ( and collars) are not intended for use on dogs attached to a "dog run". All dogs, when sufficiently stimulated, will run to the end of their attachment generating a sudden shock which, all too often, results in unfortunate consequences. Our harnesses are intended to be used for walking your dog. Many of our customers leave the harness on their dog most of the time. Others leave it hanging by the door, with the leash attached, so that it will be convenient for them when the dog is ready to go out.
We call our harness the "Easy On" Harness because there are two simple steps to putting it on. First, over the head, then fasten the side-release buckle behind the front legs. That's it! The harness is adjusted correctly if you can slide your finger easily between the adjustable harness strap and your dog's body. To remove the harness, simply unfasten the buckle and slip it back over the head.
One of the reasons our harnesses are so easy to use is because you have only one adjustment to make -- the strap that goes around your dog's ribcage. The other straps on the harness are sized, incrementally, to fit Teacup to Medium size dogs, according to the harness sizing chart.
"I've spent more than 6 months trying to find a harness that works for my little guy ... all great products but nothing fit him correctly. Everything from usual nylon gear at the local pet supply stores to the special training harnesses ... just didn't quite fit. That is ... until I tried your harness. I'm happy to report the harness is a perfect fit, easy to put on him (even when he's dancing with joy at the idea of a walk) and looks great on him! Thanks again!"
